Boost Productivity With A Wood Computer Desk

Need some proper home or office furniture for your PC? You should seriously consider a wood computer desk.

Let's be honest, wood is in a class of its own when it comes to furniture construction materials. It looks more natural and right at home in a classic study or office.

There are generally three groups from which you can choose a wood computer desk. These are student, home and office styles.

Student workstations are perfect for the young ones, from elementary school through to teens. They tend to be compact, easy to use and without decorative elements like the home styles. You may not want to give your children an expensive desk and then have them spill soft drinks or ketchup on it. The student versions offer them all the functionality they'll need.

Wood computer desks for home use works well with most other furniture of the same kind. Wood does not look and feel as cool or cold as metal and glass furniture.

The first advantage you get when using a wood computer desk as opposed to a normal table is space for storage. As I've found out myself, a table just doesn't work that well for a computer as the case either has to gather dust on the floor or intrude on your work space on top of the table. Specialized computer tables tend to have spaces specifically for putting the computer case out of harm's way...and out of your way. Units featuring a hutch allows you to store loose items neatly, and drawers are often available for this purpose as well.

Different configurations of wood computer desks include workstations, wheelchair compatible workstations, corner units and L-shaped work areas. There are a few different woods and finishes to choose from. Teak, oak and pine are among the most popular materials. The wood can also be stained with dyes and pigments to achieve a darker finish.

Popular stain finishes include cherry, espresso and ebony. Another finish is white, which serves to hide visible grain on the wood. Keep in mind that the cheaper wood computer desks may actually be made of chipboard and the surfaces covered with a thin wooden skin of real wood.

A wood computer desk is a solid choice, but beware of cheap manufacturing. A safe option is an oak desk, durable, always classy and always in season.
