Inkjet Cartridges and their negative effects on the environment have been a topic of interest lately. Landfills are filled with waste, leading some to think that the throwaway mentality of inkjet cartridge manufacturers & sellers encourage waste & pollution. One company is trying to change that. Hewlett-Packard announced in 2008 that it will use recycled plastic to produce inkjet cartridges. Recycled matter means less raw products used, and less discarded plastic that end up in landfills. But HP's recycled ink cartridges are markedly different from remanufactured ones. HP's recycled cartridges manufacture new ones from existing materials. Remanufactured ones make use of original cartridges to be refilled. It is hoped that HP's green efforts will serve as a model to other companies in creating their own cost-effective recycling programs.
