The Android OS (Operating System) is used on a wide variety of phones. This operating system came on the scene a few years ago and has gotten a lot more popular as more wireless developers are adopting it for use in their smart phones. Right now the smart phone is the major accessory to have and there is a good reason for that. Obviously these phones are useful for making calls but they are also great for listening to music, browsing the internet, taking photographs and other forms of entertainment. In addition to this stuff, you can also use your smart phone to watch videos, type memos and play a bunch of games. Here are some facts that you might not already know about Android phones.

Did you already know that the people who use Android OS phones are less likely to buy apps for their phone than iPhone users? Studies have shown that roughly fifty percent of all iPhone users will gladly pay for the apps they can't find for free. The same study shows that only about twenty percent of Android phone users will pay for applications. While this will probably change some when the paid application section of the Android market gets bigger, for now, iPhone users are less financially responsible than Android users. This might not seem like something to brag about but some people are very proud of this! Usually phones that use the Android operating system are easier to afford than the other smart phones that are out there. An iPhone or Blackberry is typically sold for many hundreds of dollars. At the same time, lots of the cellular phone providers are letting their customers take home the Android phones free of charge as a reward for renewing their contracts. This gives you all of the smart phone options you want without having to spend nearly as much money. Allowing their customers to save money is a great way to look better than the competitors. After all, who wants to spend a bunch of money if they do not have to?

The OHA incorporates the Android OS as part of the Open Handset Alliance. This means that there are several companies laboring to keep the operating system functional and moving forward in technology. Google is the largest company and gets the most press but there are other companies that have the same interests. Companies all over the world are working with hundreds of providers to bring mobile services. The Android OS is recognized universally as a cellular operating system as a result of these global organizations. The ease of access for development will be a main determination for some cell phone users who prefer the open source.

You can probably think of many reasons to choose the Android phone over the other smart phones that are available. Simply put: the Android OS is great! We say that not simply because we are fans but because it is true. Updates are available all the time for the Android OS and, because the system is based on open source technology, anybody and everybody is welcome to develop apps and other features for it. It is true that, right now, the Android phones do not have the giant reps that the other smart phones possess, but this should change any time now. Soon the Google phones will be just as popular if not more popular than the smart phones that are already on the market.
